Thanks to the punctuality of the Taxi service from Bogotá airport, you can avoid the long queues that form at the airport, and start visiting the city of a thousand contrasts. Bogotá is the capital of Colombia, as well as its most important city in the country. It attracts 56% of all Colombian tourism, which means that this city is the obligatory stop for those who want to visit the country. The historical and cultural centre of La Candelaria is perfect for the lovers of art and culture and it is also the area that hosts most of the hotels in Bogotá. With its 8 million inhabitants, in recent years a radical change has undergone, moving from a city marked by the scourge of smog and traffic, to a safe, clean and multicultural capital.
What to see in Bogotá
The capital of Colombia is full of tourist attractions, including historic locations, famous buildings, gardens, amusement parks and over 100 shopping centres. Among its attractions, we recommend the following:
- Botero Museum: Located in a beautiful colonial style villa, it hosts works not only by Fernando Botero, but by various world-famous artists.
- The Gold Museum of the Banco della Repubblica di Colombia: Opened in 1939, it hosts exhibitions on gold and pre-Columbian stones.
- Bogotá Botanical Garden: A very peaceful place with a variety of very interesting plants.
Bogotá Airport
The Colombian capital has 2 airports: El Dorado and Guaymaral. The first airport has passenger traffic of over 35 million travellers each year, and is one of the 50 busiest airports in the world. It was built in 1955, and it has 3 terminals. The other airport is called Guaymaral, and consists of a 15 km long landing strip; it is mainly used for private flights and training flights.
When visiting Bogotá, the cheapest way to get to and from the airport is by bus. Going by bus is not recommended to those new to the city because the bus schedules do not indicate the complete itinerary, they only highlight the best known places along the way. It is recommended not to take the bus at night, and not to try walking to the city centre because it is very far.
Until you are used to the city and comfortable with it, you should take taxis. There is a line of taxis waiting outside the airport, but they charge a hefty surcharge for using them. Also, beware of the white taxis as they tend to charge a lot more than regular taxis. In addition, you should only get into a registered taxi because Bogotá is not the sort of place where Lyft or Uber drivers exist. Crime rates have dropped significantly since the late 90s, but all major cities contain people who will exploit tourists who leave themselves open to exploitation.
